ABSTRACT

This essay explores resilience by looking at the text and context of a biblical study of temptation by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Moberly argues that Bonhoeffer used this text to try to strengthen his former students to remain faithful to Christ, which is the ultimate form of resilience for any Christian, however long or short their life may be. Bonhoeffer is shown to provide a sturdy role model for his former students, and to encourage them to provide strong mutual support for one another to facilitate this resilience in the extraordinarily testing times of Nazi Germany.
