ABSTRACT

In the data-driven, people-focused organisation, there is a need to constantly test and sense-check new innovations. Virtual and physical events can be used to conceive, design and present these innovations. This can be for internal or external audiences and offers new opportunities for communication and engagement with colleagues, consumers and customers, encouraging sharing, co-creation, co-production and transparency. Events are important to allow organisations to continually shape their digital transformation strategy. They support the creation of a people-focused organisation by offering tangible evidence that it is constantly outreaching to consumers and customers to sense-check its internal innovation. Effective events can be delivered either physically or virtually. Physical events include conferences, awards, trade shows, innovation jams, hackathons and networking meetings. Social media is key to the delivery of successful events. The number of social media users worldwide reached 3.484 billion in 2019, which is an increase of 9% year-on-year. The scale and continued growth of social media highlights the opportunities for organisations.
