ABSTRACT

The behavioral health (BH) field has been long challenged by a broad range of issues affecting our ability to measure clinical outcomes. The decreasing costs and easier access to technology tools combined with a growing literature showing the benefit of routine outcome measurement have created a situation where the time is now for adopting measurement-based care (MBC) practices. As BH care access issues grow and payers ask questions about outcomes, adoption of MBC practices provide a way forward. New funding streams may be available to those who pursue MBC implementation. This chapter will explore the evidence for MBC, the role of technology in enabling MBC, lessons learned from a real-world implementation with over 5 million questionnaires now collected, and a review of future possibilities.
