ABSTRACT

Eating disorders (EDs) are severe mental health disorders associated with high morbidity and mortality, marked psychosocial impairment, and poor quality of life. Fortunately, effective treatments are available. We discuss how technology can be used in practice to improve treatment of eating disorders. We present two cases, one illustrating the use of an online, coached, guided self-help program and a second illustrating an office-based behavioral intervention by a clinician that incorporates a specialized smartphone app. We also discuss some of the practical issues to consider when incorporating digital tools into clinical practice.
