ABSTRACT

The chapter investigates internationalization of vocational education as an example of cross-functional knowledge management in an international context. The case study makes use of mostly qualitative data collected over during the pilot phase of the Center for European Trainees, established in Baden-Württemberg in 2014 in order to attract young people from Italy and Spain for vocational training and to serve as ambassador for the German model of vocational education. The strengths and weaknesses revealed in the case study point to the theory postulating a more intense and adequate integration of the relevant stakeholders combined with cross-functional links. In addition, private benefits provided by the Center, such as services for individual companies, should be separated from activities with public good qualities, such as promoting the German model of vocational education. At the end of this pilot phase, the Center is ready to serve as a role model for the internationalization of vocational education and training.
