ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to explore the wider context of sustainability in the audio industries current practice and policy. It considers how environmental sustainability can be integrated with traditional audio engineering course exercises, such as energy requirement calculations, energy source considerations, and materials choices. The chapter discusses how students can be encouraged to apply traditional engineering skills, such as calculation, design, and measurement to produce better products and solutions and reduce environmental impact. It looks toward the future of sustainability in the audio industry and audio education settings and consider possible directions and developments in this area. The chapter recognizes that education has a wide remit to produce good citizens who are culturally and socially aware. The Institute of Engineering and Technology have sustainability written into their rules of conduct for members which suggests that sustainability should be a part of all members’ daily professional practice.
