ABSTRACT
This chapter identifies research and developments of the last decade to identify major areas for improvement within audio education. It offers specific and actionable items for both educators and administrators for use at their institutions and in their classrooms. Research and developments over the last decade have identified four major areas for improvement within Audio Education: fostering communication skills, aligning industry and audio education expectations, enabling apprenticeship skills, and establishing situated-learning environments. Audio educational institutions have the largest impact on the pace and direction of audio education. Specifically, audio educators should address communication skills emphasized in their classroom and administrators should identify communication skill goals for their program. Educational institutions can support audio educators by forming curriculum committees, integrating local and regional industry, establishing student mentorship, and requiring internships. To keep pace with the changing demands of the industry, educational institutions need to continuously improve and modify educational outcomes.
