ABSTRACT

This chapter compares research into gender imbalance in theater with the growing research on gender imbalance in audio education. As Dr. Elizabeth Dobson makes clear in her research, the action on gender imbalance within the industry needs to be addressed on multiple levels. The chapter examines the close links between the teaching of audio education within the bachelor of art production technology management course at the royal conservatoire of scotland and collaborative work with local groups and individuals who share the principles of the audio equity pledge. The Gender Action Plan (GAP) was created as a way to support institutions to address gender imbalance and inequality. The main ambition of the GAP is that no college or university subject will have a gender imbalance of greater than 75% of one gender.
