ABSTRACT

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has studied work-place stress in the healthcare industry for almost two decades. It is common knowledge that healthcare workers often work long hours, have heavy workloads, and face high expectations. These factors can lead to occupational distress, burnout, and even physical illness. Healthcare organizations need to address this problem head on to ensure that employees are engaged and have a positive sense of well-being. Mayo Clinic’s vision for worksite well-being is to be the healthiest workforce in America, understanding that healthy employees translate to a better patient experience and increased productivity. The leadership at Mayo Clinic recognizes the importance of healthy living in prevention and treatment of many chronic diseases. They believe employees are the greatest asset to the organization, therefore, the leadership is committed to improving employee health. By creating a profound experience, Mayo Clinic respects the emotional and personal connections that become present between patients and employees.
