ABSTRACT

Traditional Ecological Knowledge as a way of life has historical and contemporary significance for sustainability education that empowers citizens to make wise decisions. Core values such as respect, responsibility, and reciprocity reflect values inherent in sustainable living that acknowledge human dependency on, relational connection to, and limitations of ecological systems; equitable access to resources for social, cultural, and physical requirements; and needs of current and future generations. Experiential learning in a university course engages students in investigating and participating in applications of Traditional Ecological Knowledge.
