ABSTRACT

Critical Global Semiotics (CGS) represents an exploratory synthesis of critical realist (CR) methodology and systemic functional semiotic (SFS) methods of analysis. CGS advocates merciful commerce, communication which values symbolic movement, evaluating metaphoric entailments and limitations. Scholars of CR and SFS will see that the collection has only begun to scratch the surface, leaving the way open for further sustaining applications. CGS demonstrates transformational logogenesis, crucial driver of logocentric anthropology, facilitated understandings of Other. CGS relates causal mechanisms of language, education, socio-economics, and faith to governance, government, politics, and terrorism. Ancient CR wisdom and SFS pragmaticism combine resources for political cohesion in critical discourse analysis. Etymological architectonics complement CR’s realist ontology, relativist epistemology, and moral judgemental axiology. Affairs reveal CGS’ religious/scientific/political congruence, fervent passions, multifaceted ‘faiths’ open to critique. Advocating consilience, unity of knowledge, CGS similarly searches for intention, con-science, conative persuasive device, zeitgeist, spirit beyond daily baptisms, everyday discourse.
