ABSTRACT

Higher education affords a great opportunity for the exploration of social identities including race, gender, religion, nationality, and ability issues within the group therapy setting. Issues of social isolation and the desire for emotional intimacy are experienced on a continuum and provide the motivation for various experiences of marginalization to be acknowledged and validated. This chapter will highlight examples of examining intersectionality within college student interpersonal process groups and the healing that can occur at the initial cost of risking vulnerability and owning privilege.
