ABSTRACT

Microaggressions occur daily in our society against Persons of Color. Microaggressions also occur in group psychotherapy. This article will address how a clinician raised the issue of microaggressions, and their impact on members, who participated in two groups in a VA Medical Center – an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Group and a men’s interpersonal process group. The importance of consultation is emphasized as a source of support and education for how to repair these types of ruptures that occur in psychotherapy groups. Consultation, which can include addressing microaggressions, is an important part of becoming more competent in leading groups and will be addressed in the chapter as well.
