ABSTRACT

Leadership comes from a desire to fix a problem, to change a system, to help others. Many of the chapters in this book have outlined a programme, initiative or research demonstrating active leadership in the field of music education. This chapter seeks to develop some of the ideas put forward in previous chapters: highlighting the issue of employability of graduates, a mismatch between imagined and realistic career paths, including generic music skills within undergraduate degrees, maintaining a balance between employment and quality within higher education courses and changes to the arts within education.
