ABSTRACT

This chapter attempts to focus a narrower frame of reference and highlights aspects of some of the issues associated with inequality within the educational process. It argues that intercultural education as a strategy is likely to reduce the present inequality which exists within the education system. The chapter focuses on the premise that education is an invaluable commodity which is important not only to individuals but also to the society in which they live. The term ‘inequality’ has an important part to play in any discussion on fairness and effectiveness in the educational process. In most western societies, academics have developed various models or so and have used them to deal with the issues of inequality within the educational context. The education system therefore ought to develop curricula and pedagogies that integrate an understanding of cultural process and cultural continuity and changes within a framework of national identity.
