In this wide ranging conversation with Andrew Chesterman, Mona Baker explains where narrative theory overlaps with and departs from other politically oriented strands of translation studies. She outlines the basic assumptions of the theory and offers concrete examples to demonstrate the difference between narrative and frame. The discussion also engages with the closely related issues of neutrality, the positioning of translators in situations of conflict, and ultimately their ethical responsibilities as citizens and human subjects.
