ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that dedicate time every day specifically for reading for pleasure but also that it becomes embedded as valued behaviour across the school. It reviews the research highlighting the impact of reading for pleasure and sign-posted resources to support and enable class teachers and schools to embed a culture of reading for pleasure. The three case study examples will therefore offer three distinct perspectives on developing a reading for pleasure pedagogy within the classroom and throughout the school. The case study is from the perspective of an experienced teacher and literacy lead who explains strategies she used for enriching the school's practice for reading for pleasure. The chapter explores the importance of developing a reading for pleasure pedagogy within our lives, classrooms, and schools. Developing a reading for pleasure pedagogy in the classrooms and schools is one of the greatest gifts we can offer the children we teach.
