ABSTRACT

For Ben-Gurion, the main lesson of the Holocaust and the fundamental solution to the anomaly of the Jewish People was the creation of a Jewish nation-state in Palestine. With great emotion, Ben-Gurion shared with the audience what he had seen during his recent visit to the Displaced Persons camps in Germany and listed the lessons and imperatives to be learned. Ben-Gurion’s first effort was to transform the spirit of the Biltmore Conference that had taken place in May 1942 into a pragmatic platform. During the 1930s, Ben-Gurion observed closely the series of international crisis in Europe. Ben-Gurion connected the democracies’ capitulation in Europe and the situation in the Middle East. Ben-Gurion understood that there was no point in trying to persuade Britain of the importance of the Yishuv to British interests in the region. Ben-Gurion tried to persuade others of his viewpoint at the Zionist Convention held in London in August 1945.
