ABSTRACT

The Primary Reserve is a primarily part-time component of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), which supplements the full-time Regular Force in operations at home and abroad. As with the regular force, many Reserve members have families; however, the part-time nature of their service means that many of them additionally hold civilian employment. Thus, members of the Reserves are in the unique position of balancing a trio of responsibilities: family life, civilian work obligations, and military service. In this chapter, the authors examine the interplay among those responsibilities.
