ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors dive into a discussion of phenomenology and the theoretical and methodological implications of a new materialist framework for considerations of agency, experience, and relationality. The authors touch on a variety of topics, including the difference between transcendental and hermeneutic phenomenology and what role ethnographically informed models play in the North American and European research contexts. The authors also consider the potentials and pitfalls of a non-anthropocentric phenomenology and the role of non-humans as actants within a Latourian framework on agency.
