ABSTRACT

For years, Italy has been seeing growth in immigration. This is a challenge facing compulsory education today. Music teachers come into contact with many children and young adults who have come to the country with their families, looking for more favorable living conditions in Europe. However, Italy is also witnessing a different type of immigration, which involves young people from other continents, especially Asia, coming to acquire a university education before returning to their home countries. They register for undergraduate courses and often choose the humanities, the arts, and literature as their subjects. This chapter provides examples of how listening didactics in schools and universities is proving useful for the purposes of inclusion and creating mutual knowledge.
