ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses events organised and stage managed by three-year-old ‘Katie’ with a cast that includes her older sister ‘Alexa’, their grandmother and grandfather. The family situation potentially offers the love, care and nurture, which enable children to learn about people, their relationships and emotions. Parents and educators have similar responsibilities with regard to the children in their care. Ideally, each provides a caring, loving, safe and secure situation that supports personal, social and conceptual learning and development opportunities. The child who experiences rejection, whose actions are censured by adult imposed, inappropriate criteria or reasoning, who is deprived of understanding, care, love, warmth and affection, is highly likely to lose these important human capacities and associated emotions.
