ABSTRACT

This entry reviews how ‘governance’ is conceived in Bahá’í thought and articulates the Bahá’í critique of current conceptions and practices as well as Bahá’í perspectives on transformation. These views are expressed in assessments of how such concepts as leadership, ethics, power, authority, agency, and justice have been expressed from the nineteenth century to the present in the operation of empires, national governments, and such international bodies as the United Nations and the World Bank. Bahá’í scripture is optimistic about future governance arrangements from local to global levels and offers precise innovations for transformation.
