ABSTRACT

This chapter takes on the Snowden revelations, which shook transatlantic relations and produced public expectations across many European countries to have citizen rights better protected against intrusive practices of foreign powers. While intelligence cooperation has continued with business as usual, the Snowden revelations have had catalytic effects for the supranational regulation of privacy and data protection. As the increased rights of customers of digital services have repercussions on transatlantic economic relations, transatlantic relations have shown resilience in overcoming the Snowden crisis.
