Introduction to Crisis and Emergency Management in the Arctic

This chapter presents the central issues within safety and emergency management discussed in this book. We link the book to important fields of research within crisis and emergency management in the Arctic region. We reflect upon complexity and how the Arctic context could represent additional challenges for the emergency response organizations. We elaborate on large-scale incidents calling for combined operations with support from a broad range of agencies, organizations, and companies, including co-operation across national borders.
