ABSTRACT

Personal construct psychology (PCP) is not only a counselling theory, but it is also a theory which relates to everyone, to help each of us understand how an individual construes (understands and interacts with) the world. This case provides an example of how a PCP approach helped one woman (Ruth) who has aphasia to make sense of her new situation over a succession of sessions. PCP as a fundamental model can be tailored creatively to each client who may have a range of communication difficulties, in order to support the development of personal meaning in their new life.
