ABSTRACT

This paper explores the potential role of mindfulness interventions in supporting the mental wellbeing of people with aphasia following acquired brain injury. Following an initial review of concepts and existing studies, the strengths and limitations of using mindfulness with this group is highlighted from an illustrative case study, followed by a small mindfulness group evaluation using descriptive single-case methodology. These two sources of evidence confer preliminary support for the potential role of mindfulness interventions in improving psychological functioning for people with aphasia, and for some there are initial indications of improved higher control of attentional processes following mindfulness training, consistent with previous research.
