ABSTRACT

Kings Heath Primary School has been involved in the Young Researchers Project for five years. The findings from all of our research projects have been shared with teachers and governors at the school, with some influence on policy and practice at Kings Heath Primary School. The children at Kings Heath are clearly taking an active role in shaping their own lives and those of their classmates. Many of the parents at Kings Heath Primary were opposed to the idea of the school becoming an academy and had been quite vocal in their opposition. In considering Kleine et al.’s principle of relevance, the children at Kings Heath have shown us that it is not up to adults to decide what are relevant topics of research for young children. The young researchers in this case study demonstrate that children will make research relevant to their own lives and to the lives of the children around them.
