ABSTRACT

A serious analysis of the Spanish position in the Uruguay Round should take into consideration a variety of historical, political and economic factors which, as in the case of many other countries, contribute towards the determination of the broad aspects of that position. The Spanish integration into the EEC would contribute new elements and allow a new perspective in the participation in the negotiations. The EEC would always be at the core of all the negotiating processes and tasks within the Preparatory Committee as well as within the CNC negotiating groups. The application of the Spanish principles and conditions having been established becomes immediate to the set of topics embraced by the Uruguay Round and its complex negotiating mechanisms. The Spanish representatives insisted, first of all, on the need to attain a simplified model for General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade.
