ABSTRACT

In Bulgaria there is a generally warm attitude towards the USSR. This warm attitude is generated by the close historic relationship between Bulgarians and Russians. The Cyrillic alphabet and Christianity have been introduced in Russia through Bulgaria while Russia is considered as the liberator. Soviet troops have not been stationed in Bulgaria. The Bulgarian Communist Party, which presently has nearly one million members, held a referendum for the change of its name into Bulgarian Socialist Party in which probably about 80-85 per cent of the members will support this change. Bulgaria is a country endowed with natural beauty, good arable land and favourable climatic conditions. A modernization of the Bulgarian agriculture with western assistance and investment could have a pay-off very soon. Bulgaria probably is one of the few countries which have relatively constant and advanced political links with Albania. This cooperation will be intensified to develop Albania's international relations.
