ABSTRACT

This resolution, adopted by the General Assembly on December 13, 1984, is very similar to previous annual resolutions of the General Assembly aimed at increasing the protection of diplomats and other internationally protected persons. The resolution calls upon states to ratify existing international instruments, to report attacks to the Secretary-General, and to use the Secretary-General's good offices in the event of a crisis involving diplomatic and consular personnel and premises. It also encourages states to improve communication among themselves about diplomatic protection and to cooperate to develop practical measures within their territories to enhance the safety of internationally protected persons.
