ABSTRACT

Most of the documents contained in this volume were adopted against a backdrop of increasing violence against diplomats and other internationally protected persons. The tables included below are indicative of the widespread nature of such attacks. The information has been drawn primarily from United States official sources; the United Nations has no statistical data available on this subject. One helpful United Nations source, however, on the incidence and location of actual attacks are the voluntary annual reports governments have provided to the Secretary-General. Yearly United Nations resolutions request governments to report attacks against diplomats which take place within their territory and the Secretary-General submits this information to the Sixth Committee.
