ABSTRACT

Explosive bombing and arson attacks on information systems by international terrorist organizations pose a new threat to DP personnel, Data Bases and Communication networks. In the United States, vulnerability and security of information systems is on the agenda of Congressional Committees, the National Security Agency, FBI, the Defense Department, the Congressional Office of Technology assessment and many other government, corporate and private security institutions and experts. One aspect of terrorist activities against information systems is computer crime, committed by an insider at a DP installation, in order to raise money for terrorist activities. Two such cases are known in Europe. The DP professional can commit the crime either because of political sympathy for the terrorist movement, or because he, or his family, may be threatened by terrorists. Artificial intelligence Expert Systems, will not replace computer security officers, but they will assist them in executing their difficult tasks more efficiently, quicker and punctually.
