ABSTRACT

The accuracy of polygraph chart interpretation is a major problem in applications of polygraph techniques for the detection of deception and the verification of truthfulness. Army in numerical evaluation, and the second was given by a private examiner trained and employed by Lynn Marcy who practices global and intuitive approaches to polygraph diagnosis. The best method available for the evaluation of polygraph techniques is the mock-crime paradigm, and the best method currently available for polygraph chart interpretation and diagnosis is numerical scoring. The polygraph recordings were obtained on a Beckman Dynograph which measured thoracic and abdominal respiration, skin conductance, relative blood pressure, finger pulse amplitude and blood volume, heart rate, and electrocardiogram. During each presentation of the 11-question sequence, which included three relevant and three control questions, the physiological measures were recorded on paper charts and simultaneously digitized and analyzed by a laboratory computer.
