ABSTRACT

This chapter draws on the type of accurate records of foot charting available in the offices of chiropodists and podiatrists throughout the world and suggests that where lower limb identification is required, the identification team could benefit from enlisting the help of local chiropody services. It shows that the medical and paramedical personnel keep accurate records of their work and, in particular, draw attention to the chiropodist and discuss the possible usefulness of chiropody records in identification of lower limbs in mass disasters. The chapter discusses how greater awareness of the value of their records by chiropodists themselves could make their profession an asset to the disaster team. It focuses on the type of records kept by chiropodists and suggests that they they may provide a very useful source of untapped information for investigation teams. The success of dental identification by reference to already available professional records is universally accepted.
