ABSTRACT

Terrorist materials are handled separately, and statistics are given for the various crimes which terrorists have committed. Information about arson and bombing incidents is computerized, and based upon the modus operandi and weapons/chemicals involved. It is possible to construct investigative leads by associating similar incidents. If one speaks about collections compiled by the Bundeskriminalamt (BKA) and knows about their enormous volume, one also inevitably thinks about a total computerization, since the BKA is, according to law, the central point of the Electronic Data System and in fact has advanced the employment of computers by the police decisively. The BKA further more maintains a central collection of ammunition parts, in connection with fire-arms, compiled throughout the Federal Republic. The BKA - together with the State Crime Labs - has created a fingerprint classification-system, by which investigations within a collection of fingerprint leafs numbering about one million, are possible.
