ABSTRACT

Viktor Kozeny, at the beginning of his rapid rise to prominence in the renewed "Prague Spring" of April of 1990, was twenty-seven years old and had recently completed an undergraduate degree in economics from Harvard University. He had barely nine months of prior full-time work experience in the world of business. Kozeny was born in Prague in 1963. After leaving Harvard, Kozeny worked for a short time in London for Robert Fleming in privatization projects. In April 1990 Kozeny returned to Czechoslovakia to participate in the economic reconstruction of the country. Vaclav Varcop met Viktor Kozeny in July 1990 and started working for him two months later. In October 1990 Kozeny officially founded Harvard Capital and Consulting. In February 1991, he founded Corporate Security Products because he expected a large demand in the security products industry in the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic and wanted to invest some capital in production.
