ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes the relationship between economic performance of the Front Line States and the liberation struggle in Southern Africa. It discusses the structure of the economies of the Front Line States and their performance and examines the ability of Front Line States to support liberation movements in Southern Africa, and economic strategies among them that will increase their ability to support the liberation struggle within South Africa. The performances of African economies have in general been worse than more of other dependent economies, indicating that domestic factors have also contributed to the continent's economic crisis. The Organization of African Unity Front Line States is Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and. Zimbabwe. Each of the economies of the Front Line States is quite weak and generally dependent upon the world capitalist system. To facilitate an armed struggle in South. Africa, Front Line States must provide training facilities and allow armed freedom fighters to cross the border into South Africa.
