ABSTRACT

This chapter examines Industrialization in the US-Mexico border region, its history, and the strategies and policies that have affected it. It focuses on the US side of the border. The chapter examines the economic growth of the border region and its importance to the United States. It describes past border Industrialization and border industrialization policies. The chapter analyes the US industrialization strategy to make projections for future industrialization. It explores the roles of federal, state and local governments in the industrialization process using Arizona as a case study. The US-Mexico border region is defined in many ways, depending on the intent of the analysis or the availability of data. The federal government's approach to the border has been directed to economically-distressed communities, but there is no concerted federal effort for industrialization in the US-Mexico border region. Several loan funds are available that could be used for industrialization, but none is border-specific.
