ABSTRACT

This paper presents econometric estimates of energy demand in several Asian developing countries, namely Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, and South Korea. Why these countries? Here economic activity has grown much faster than in the industrialized countries of Western Europe and North America. With the exception of the Philippines, so has energy demand. There have been numerous conjectures made about the growth of energy demand in the developing countries, but very few empirical studies in the analysis.
