ABSTRACT

This chapter finds a functional correlation between the levels of economic growth and the efficient organization forms which the cooperatives in the rural area should assume in order to adapt to the changes occurring at the various levels of growth. Economic growth both influences and is influenced by social changes. Research indicates that a certain functional connection exists between the structure of the agricultural production unit and the level of economic growth. The structure of the production unit in the farm economy has a decisive influence on the socioeconomic function of the rural community, particularly in the transition from the traditional economy to the modern economy, which focuses on production to satisfy market demand. Based on the experience which has accumulated over the past 50 years as to the function of agricultural cooperatives in national and regional economic systems, as well as with regard to the production units themselves, we can reach a number of general conclusions.
