ABSTRACT

The Milken Institute for Job and Capital Formation is a private philanthropic foundation established to support research and public discourse on the determinants of American economic growth. As economic policy clearly affects financial markets in crucial ways, and, through that avenue, economic growth, the topics addressed by the individual papers are central to the analytic and policy focus of the MIJCF. The importance and policy relevance of the conference and of the individual sessions are well illustrated by the international renown of the presenters and discussants who participated in this first MIJCF conference. Notwithstanding the broad set of dimensions, the MIJCF is a research institute with a somewhat narrower focus, originally envisioned to be “job and capital formation.” Through educational efforts policymakers hope to aid in the strengthening of US economic performance and in the broader advance of human welfare.
