ABSTRACT

The main features of the strategy China has adopted toward its energy and mineral resources are comprehensive development, rational utilization, equal emphasis on reduction of consumption and protection of resources and balancing of exports and imports on the basis of domestic needs. China aims to maintain political stability so as to ensure more vigorous economic growth, with the goal of quadrupling the nation's 1980 gross value of agricultural and industrial output by the year 2000. China's economic reforms and the development of its minerals base will create economic opportunities for many countries in the region and will contribute to peace and stability. China exports oil, coal, and other minerals; it imports iron ore, chromium, potash, salt, and copper. The State Planning Commission is responsible for maintaining an overall balance in the national economy and for meeting social development needs. The management system of the mining industry is undergoing a transformation.
