ABSTRACT

People use natural resources and consume agricultural products. Future sources of energy have implications for natural resource management affecting renewable energy sources. While agriculture has an obligation to provide food and fiber for the growing world population, that obligation must be met in a manner that does not deplete or destroy the natural resource base on which it rests. Airsheds have been added to watersheds as contemporary natural resources that may well influence global climate change, agriculture, forestry and mineral production practices and human settlement patterns in the future. The management of these natural resources for human welfare has become a driving force in public policy. Environmental stewardship and resource conservation are central themes. Land use is central to many global environmental issues because decisions are often virtually irreversible and their repercussions felt both locally and globally.
