ABSTRACT

The performance and flexibility of industrial automation systems can be improved by the addition of several types of sensor devices, including visual sensors. The multiple microprocessor architecture is an important piece of a development system that is designed to allow the introduction of automatic visual inspection systems in cases in which only moderate technical and economic resources exist. The SPAI general-purpose laboratory system is an interactive development tool for the generation of image processing and analysis algorithms suited to each particular application. The AMIVA modular system was designed with the primary goals of reducing the design effort of dedicated systems and eliminating the uncertainty of their cost and performance. AMIVA structures can implement all algorithms developed in SPAI and are efficient when the same algorithm is repeatedly applied to a succession of images, which is frequently the situation in many practical problems.
