ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a viable strategy to promote the emergence of useful expert systems in developing countries. The prototype, together with the type of knowledge the expert system will use, must revolve around the participation of the users. The evaluation of the expert system's progress can be tested by the trouble-shooting simulating system and by using actual problems. The structure selected for the source data base in Cryptic-database (CRY-DB) was a tree-like structure known in artificial intelligence as a frame. The first level in the structure consists of the terms Diagnosis, Sex, Age, Motive-of-the-visit, Inspection, Antecedents, Signs, and Laboratory data. The second level consists of either the word's value or value # or generic words like thyroid-gland-palpation, pulse, "radio-immuno-assay." A frame source was transformed into a second-level cryptic frame case by the procedure CRY-DB generator. This function randomly chooses at least one of the third-level items for every second-level item to generate the corresponding structure of the new frame.
