ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the reader with an overview of systems analysis and the process of constructing a computerized simulation model. In addition, several specific modeling techniques found to be useful in modeling and analyzing a broad array of price control policies in developing nations are presented. One such tool is the Generalized Econometric Spreadsheet Simulation (GESS) Model. This model provides a framework for conceptualizing and implementing an econometric model. A second major tool dealt with in detail is the modeling of random variables in economic systems. The use of computer generated random number series to represent price and production uncertainties is illustrated.
