ABSTRACT

Forest resource economics has much to say about how resources are assessed, how information is managed, and how processed information is communicated. Resource economics research has been heavily oriented to timber-related issues and the information requirements thereof. Organization of renewable resource information, commonly viewed as land and resource classification, has grown in complexity proportional to the complexities involved in resource analysis, management, and planning. Renewable resources information is collected for one of two basic purposes: resource analysis and resource management. Rapid evolution of demand for renewable resources has been a significant factor in generating needs for new research. Renewable resource management requires a clear understanding of a variety of resources, including recreation, water, forage, timber, and fish and wildlife. Multi-resource evaluation greatly expands the complexity of information collection, information management, and information analysis. Renewable resource assessment and information management are activities of critical importance to the efficient use and management of forest resources.
