ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides a different approach to the analysis of agrarian reform. It presents case studies from each of the four regions of the Third World: Africa (Kenya), Asia (Philippines), Latin America (Brazil, Ecuador, Honduras, and Peru), and the Middle East (Turkey). The book examines the political context of the socio-economic changes. It focuses on a comparison of the policy impacts of different development models. The book also examines the implications of the international factors on agricultural development and food security in the Third World. It looks at the nature of the exchange relationship between developed and Third World states. The book examines the impact of the US foreign agricultural policy on less developed countries. It traces the origins of the US foreign agricultural policy.
