ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book provides some insight into the nature of the resource conflicts in both a general sense and with respect to some specific issues. It focuses on experiences in developing resource information systems. The book offers insights into the development and application of methods within the context of rural land-use planning. It presents examples of developments and findings in the field of rural resource analysis. The book also provides a framework for characterizing research tasks, and for showing how these tasks are associated with each other as well as with the process of public policy formulation. This framework involves several stages. Initially land-use problems must be carefully identified and conceptualized. In the second stage, information is gathered and arranged in resource information systems.
